On Children's Day, the first Lesser kestrel hatched in the colony of the species in the Sakar village of Levka

Jun 01, 2024
Today, the first of June, for the team of the project "Life for the kestrel" LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017 in the Green Balkans, funded by the LIFE program of the EU, the celebration is double.

In addition to being Children's Day, the first baby for 2024 has also hatched in the colony of Lesser kestrels in the Sakar village of Levka! It came into the world after the warm care and attention of its parents, predating the other 4 eggs in the couple's nest.

We remind you that the colony of Lesser kestrels in Levka is the first one recovered by the Green Balkans team after decades in which the species was extinct in our country, and it is the largest of the three known to us so far in Bulgaria.

The Green Balkans team constantly monitors the life of the Lesser kestrels in the colony by means of installed video surveillance cameras, thanks to which we can also capture this wonderful and very exciting moment!

So, baby season is on!
