At the end of last month, in the village of Belozem, Wurt Electronic IBE BG EOOD organized a working meeting of the specialists from the "Club for Safety and Health at Work" in the city of Plovdiv.

Given that the village of Belozem is part of the international initiative "European Village of the White Stork", the organizers of the event invited Green Balkans to present to the participants the activities for the protection of the white storks and their habitats.

In front of a small pond on the outskirts of the village, Gradimir Gradev, project manager of "Life for Lesser kestrel" LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017 of the Green Balkans, financed by the LIFE program of the EU, told the participants about the white storks and their key habitats - meadows, grasslands, wetlands and paddy fields located in the surrounding area. Green Balkans also presented the partnership between the environmentalists, the hunting squad in Belozem and the municipal administration in Rakovski, thanks to which many mallards have settled in the reservoir. Although this is a typical hunting species, hunters from the village have restricted hunting to help the ducks adapt and gradually occupy nesting territories in the area.

The provided tranquillity also attracts other feathered inhabitants - protected species, such as herons, little cormorants, swans, etc., and all this activity becomes an attraction for residents as a place to relax and walk in nature. Recently, Wurt Electronic in Belozem also installed new information boards around the reservoir, which present to visitors the variety of protected species in the area.

The reservoir and its surroundings are also the subjects of other environmental protection initiatives, like the afforestation that Green Balkans organized earlier in the year together with the Department of Prosthetic Dentistry - MU-Plovdiv.
