The event took place at the end of the past week in the yard of the Center for Environmental Protection Activities of Green Balkans, on the outskirts of the village of Levka in Sakar.

The participants in the initiative had the opportunity to familiarize themselves closely with the activities of the Center and the project "Life for Lesser Kestrel" LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017, implemented by the Green Balkans with the support of the LIFE Program of the European Union.

As part of the event, a Farmer's Day was also held in the vicinity of the village, where various traditional and homemade products produced in Sakar and its neighbouring areas were presented.

Buffalo cheese, butter and katak from a farm in the foothills of Sakar, sheep's cheese from a farm in Dervishka Mogila, grapes, almonds and figs from the village of Levka, banitsa, pitta, and homemade sausages, were just some of the delicious gifts of nature that the participants in the event had the opportunity to see. A demonstration of working with Karakachan horses, in connection with the preparation of the animals for the autumn transhumance, was also included in the program of the Farmer's Day.

Given that kestrels are directly associated with agricultural areas, such as pastures, meadows and extensively cultivated fields, a partnership between conservationists, farmers and local ranchers is key to the conservation of the species. Also, in the area of Sakar, part of the European ecological network NATURA 2000, traditional animal husbandry and agricultural practices have been preserved, which favour the protection of the habitats of the Lesser kestrels.

The event was attended by participants in the "Green Farmer" campaign of the "Life for Lesser Kestrel" LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017 project, aimed at farmers implementing nature-friendly activities that have a positive effect on biological diversity.

The organizers from Green Balkans express their gratitude to the partners who helped to hold the events - Odrisi Guest House, Levka village, Biosakar Ltd, Sakar Nature Park Association, Nikolay Kolev - grape producer from the village of Levka, BulNaMe, "Eco card" Ltd and others.
