The BESTbelt 2022 conference is dedicated to the European Green Belt international initiative and was held in the city of Ulcinj, Montenegro in the period 01 - 05.11.2022.
The event was attended by representatives of 24 different member states of the European Green Belt Association located along the entire length of the Green Belt - the former Iron Curtain from the Barents Sea in the north, to the Adriatic and Black Seas in southeastern Europe. The conference was part of the BESTbelt project, funded by the European Union.
Green Balkans presented the project "Life for Lesser Kestrel" LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017, which is implemented with the support of the LIFE Program of the European Union. The Green Balkans project is one of the successful nature protection projects implemented on the territory of the Green Belt, in its Balkan part and specifically in the NATURA 2000 area "Sakar" in the border region of Bulgaria and Turkey.
The event was also attended by representatives of other EU LIFE Program projects, such as - DRAVA LIFE and LIFE for MIRES, with whom the Green Balkans team exchanged experience on the current implementation of the projects.
The hosts of the Conference, EuroNatur - Germany and CZIP - Montenegro, organized for the participants a visit to the salt pans near the city of Ulcinj, which are one of the most important wetlands for migratory birds on the Adriatic coast.
