There are already over 15 pairs of Lesser Kestrel in the colony in the Svilengrad village of Levka!

Apr. 12, 2022
More than 15 couples are already actively preparing for the upcoming breeding season in the first colony of Lesser Kestrels, formed by the Green Balkans team, after the restoration of the species in our country, the one in the Sakar village of Levka.

This was announced by the "Life for Lesser Kestrel" LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017 project team, implemented with the financial support of the EU, whose field staff for more than a month was waiting for the little falcons to return from the warm countries.

In addition to the hectic preparation of choosing nests, pre-installed by our team on buildings and concrete pillars, the birds began to make their first copulations.

So, laying the first egg is not far off!

Meanwhile, the project team continues to feed the kestrels daily, monitor them and record each newcomer. Because, some are now returning from the long migration and will still recover, and will look for a home and partners!

We hope that the upcoming breeding season will bring us a lot of good news, which we promise to share with you!
