In early March, 13 Lesser kestrels hatched at the Prague and Hodonin Zoo, Czech Republic, arrived at the Green Balkans Wildlife Rescue Center. The initial examination of veterinarians from the Rescue Center and their assistants, students from the Trakia University and interns from the National Professional School of Veterinary Medicine "Ivan Pavlov" - Stara Zagora, part of the project BG05М20Р001-2.015-0001 "Student Practices - 2", financed by the Operational Program "Science and Education for intelligent growth" (OP NOIR) showed that the birds are in satisfactory condition!

The arrival of the kestrels in our country is a result of the partnership of the team of the project "Life for Lesser kestrel" LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017, implemented by Green Balkans and financed by the LIFE program of the EU with various zoos, aimed at supporting the wild population of the species in our country.

This will also be the fate of the 13 birds that arrived. They were hatched in 2022 and, after a period of adaptation, will be released near the Rescue Center using the delayed release method, using a specially prepared aviary. In this way, we will strengthen the colony of the species created by our team near the Center - one of the three in Bulgaria!

We thank our colleagues from the Czech Republic for the cooperation and partnership they provide us, sending for the nature of Bulgaria, for the third year now, Lesser kestrels hatched by them.
