Silent and deserted is the colony of the Lesser Kestrels in the Sakar village of Levka.
For days the project team of “Life for Lesser Kestrel “LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017 has not noted the presence of this bird species.
But where are the Falcons?
Around this time every year they leave their home colony and prepare for the long journey of migration. The team of Green Balkans find them in different group sizes in the area of 33 NATURA 2000 Sakar. There they form the so-called roosting sites – places in which the birds gather during the night time, after the long wanderings in search of food during the day.
This period of the life of the Lesser Kestrels is very important, because at the moment they store their energy reserves. Reserves, which will help them overcome the difficult path of migration, which very soon they will embark.
A migration that will take them all the way to Africa, where they will spend the winter, waiting to return home again!
