The medical check of the Lesser Kestrels successfully passed at the Rescue Center of Green Balkans

Feb. 27, 2024
A few days ago, the veterinarians from the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Centre and the team of project “Life for Lesser Kestrel” LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017, financed by Programme LIFE of the EU, carried out a medical check of the Lesser Kestrels, inhabiting the Center's aviaries.
A total of 77 birds were examined and dewormed for internal and external parasites. Along with that we also did an observation of the beaks and claws of the birds and where it was necessary, we corrected them.
At the same time, another part of our team took care of the aviaries, home of our feathered families, to be cleaned, disinfected and with changed beddings. Where it was necessary we replaced or repaired the perches, so that the birds can feel comfortable in the places they inhabit.
And, on the next day after we finished with all the manipulations, and returned the Lesser Kestrels in their homes, the team observed the first copulation in one of the aviaries – a sure sign, that the little Falcons are in excellent health, and ready for the new breeding season.
Students from the Trakia University helped during the medical check, while on practice at the Rescue Center.
