For the first year in the colony near the Green Balkans Wildlife Rescue Center in Stara Zagora, 25 Lesser kestrels and 8 sure-formed pairs were recorded!
This is kind of a record, considering that from the beginning of the formation of the colony in 2020 until now, the team of the project "Life for Lesser kestrel" LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017 of the Green Balkans, funded by the LIFE program of the EU, has reported the most -lots of 14 birds and 4 couples, in 2022.
We remind you that within the framework of our activities for the return of the Lesser kestrel to Bulgaria, the Green Balkans team has been releasing birds near the Rescue Center since 2017, and the first registered pair in the colony was in 2020.
The birds we release are small, hatched and raised within the Center, and the methodology we use is through adaptation aviaries within its boundaries.
We believe that this year the bird families will raise dozens of young ones, which at the beginning of summer will already roam freely in the sky above Stara Zagora.
