Educational lecture about the Lesser Kestrel in the Faculty of Biology, Sofia University

Oct. 27, 2023
The autumn winter period is when our Lesser Kestrels are far away from the nesting places and the team from Green Balkans is not so engaged with daily care for the small falcons. This offers an opportunity for the experts of project “Life for Lesser Kestrel” LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017 performed with the support of Programme LIFE of the EU, to direct their efforts to greater promotion of the excellent results, achieved during the repair of the nesting of the lesser kestrel in Bulgaria.
Thus, on 25.10 our colleagues visited the faculty library of Sofia university “St. Kliment Ohridski” during a regular lecture, part of the initiative “Series of lectures in the field of studying and protecting biodiversity”, which are organized by our hosts of the event, together with IBER of the BAS.
To the extremely interested students, teachers, fanciers and other guests of the event, including an infant, the members of Green Balkans presented over ten years of efforts since the beginning of the direct activities for the restoration of the rare species of falcon that disappeared from Bulgaria. In a rather casual and friendly atmosphere, the team of the project shared with the participants about the used methods and approaches, the challenges they faced as well as his satisfaction of the successful return to our country of one of the rarest birds of prey in our country.
The team expressed their gratitude to Ch. Assistant Professor Nikolay Dolapchiev, PhD, main organizer of the event, the hospitable host of course, to all the guests and participants, who gave of their time, to get acquainted with one of the most successful nature protection initiatives in our country.
