The breeding season of the Lesser Kestrels in Sakar has started!

Mar 17, 2021
With the return of the first Lesser Kestrel in the Sakar village of Levka, the team of the 'LIFE for Lesser Kestrel' project LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017 informed about the beginning of the breeding season of the small falcons.

Not yet rested from the long journey of migration, the brave travelers devote themselves to family life in search of a suitable nesting platform and partner with whom to raise a generation. Multiple copulations have also been observed.

For several days now, our field team has been sure that there are at least three couples!

'So far we can say that we have for sure 3 copulating and nesting pairs. Probably more', shares Yordanka Vasileva and continues. The female was observed for the first time on March 3, and the male on March 6. They probably occupy the 6th nest, although they are still circling the others.

And so. An interesting and full of surprises breeding season in Levka is expected. Our colleagues there will continue to take care of the Lesser Kestrel, and we will periodically inform you about the most interesting things in the life of the little falcons!
