The first Lesser Kestrels to come back to the Green Balkans Rescue Centre!

Mar 10, 2021
March 8, 2021, Ladies' Day, will be remembered at the Green Balkans Rescue Centre also with the first Lesser Kestrels arriving from the south.

They are two - male and female and, already, they hurried to form a couple.
As soon as they appeared in the sky above the Centre, the birds demonstrated active mating behavior in front of the team of the 'LIFE for Lesser Kestrel' project LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017
But who are the newcomers?

Both are birds hatched in 2019 in the aviaries of the Green Balkans Rescue Centre and released back then, as part of our activities to restore the species in our country and the experimental releases in the vicinity of the Centre! In 2020, the birds were part of the group of returned birds near the "native" aviaries in Stara Zagora, but unfortunately, our team has no direct evidence that they participated in the breeding pairs!

We are currently taking care of the newly arrived birds by providing them with food so that they can spend the first days after arriving at our place!

We are sure that this is just the beginning of a successful breeding season of the already wild kestrels, flying freely in the sky of Stara Zagora.

We will continue to inform you about what is happening with us because the news is just beginning!
