The first Lesser kestrel has returned home!

Feb. 12, 2024
Today, the Life for the Lesser kestrel LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017 project team registered the first Lesser kestrel that returned after migration!

The bird was observed in the colony of the species in the village of Levka in Sakar.

We still don't know for sure which bird it is, as we didn't observe the ring number, but one thing is clear - this year, the first bird that returned home is a female, and the dates of the return coincide with previous years’ return dates.

And so, we kick off the 2024 season of wild Lesser kestrels. We wish it to be successful and many young birds, hatched in the three colonies of the species in our country, to fly in the sky in the summer!

And which the first Lesser kestrel returning after the difficult and dangerous journey of migration home is, we are going to find out very soon, so keep an eye on the project page!
