The hatchlings, 22 in total, 16 of which hatched at the Green Balkans Rescue Center aviaries, left at the end of last week for the adaptation aviaries of the Center for Environmental Activities of the organization in the village of Levka.

Five of the Lesser kestrels are a donation from the Sofia Zoo, where they hatched earlier in the year, and 1 was rescued by the Green Balkans team from the same colony in the village of Levka, where the young are to be released. Before being placed in the adaptation aviary, all birds were marked with rings. They will help us in the subsequent tracking of the young.

The activity is part of the work of our team on the "Life for Lesser Kestrel" LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017 project, funded by the EU LIFE program and aims to support the existing colony of the species in Sakar.

We remind you that thanks to the efforts of our team, the species was returned to the nature of Bulgaria, and the first established colony was in Levka.

So, the beginning of the release of birds for this year is already a fact. Of course, it will happen a little later, when the young grow up in the adaptation aviaries and become independent enough to live in nature. Until then, the Green Balkans team will take care of them by feeding and monitoring them daily.
